Progression update 10-01-2025

First of all, Happy new year!!! With a new year, also comes new updates for Swords and Spells, and it took me a while but there is a update!

The last few months I have been working on getting the inventory, stats and skills back into the game, and while it isn't done yet, the majority of the work is. So first up I have the stats:

This is used to inform the player what is going on with each character. If a character is suffering from a ailment some stats might be lower (or higher) and that will be made clear with red (or green) stat numbers.

Next up I added the skills, to the views. This allows the player to see how good each character is with certain weapons, armour, magic or even miscellaneous skills. Extra info will be shown to the right of the skills to show what each skill does and what buffs it provides. It is also the place to increase a skill in level.

The last item reworked is the inventory. While in earlier builds something similar was already in there, it didn't really work with the equipment grid. At the moment the equipment slots have the same squares as the inventory but I will be changing that in the future. As for the inventory, the original plan was to have a grid of 14 by 9, but this posed an issue where it was not fitting nicely. So to make it fit the screen, and to leave not too many open space, I decided to change it to 17 by 8. This is larger than initially planned, but I did account for the inventory to be changed at will.

The equipment grid is divided into 3 tabs. The first one is armour, like what is shown in the inventory screen shot. Here is where all the armour pieces are stored that a character is wearing.
The second tab, is the weapons tab, like what is shown in the skills screenshot. Here you can find the main- and offhand items (weapons or a weapon and shield) but also ring slots and a amulet slot. So technically it isn't an exclusive weapons but I didn't want to make too many tabs.
The last tab (not shown) is a tab exclusively for ranged weapons, like bows and crossbows. Pure magic DPS classes won't have this tab available as their melee weapons (staves) will allow for a magical ranged attack.

This may not seem like a lot of stuff, but the one thing that I also worked on, that is more difficult to show of, is the loading screen and more controlled loading of each scene. This one took a long time to get right and there was a lot of coding to be done as well.

So hopefully the next update will actually have something playable again.
