WIP: Party system and more!
After a month of development there is still a lot of stuff to do in regards to the changes that are being made.
With the SQL database to store all kinds of data, it is made possible relatively easy to implement a party system. This was also mentioned in the previous update. However these changes are also introducing new issues. Since Swords and Spells is now relying on the SQL database, it also means that this database needs to be filled with data first in order to be useful. This in turns means a separate program needs to be written so that data can be added and changed without going in the SQL database itself. Once this is done, the party system can be tested further, as that program will also be a save file editor, so testing can be a lot quicker.
So for now the focus will be on creating a program to edit the database and save files. That doesn't mean development on Swords and Spells has stopped. I will still be working on the game itself, mostly making visual improvements, but it will not be the main focus for now. It is hard to test new features if the database isn't ready. As I am a solo developer, and I am limited in time, I have not much time in general to work on Swords and Spells. I really try to get it updated with the new features as quickly as possible, but I also want it to be a good quality.
As for the stuff added with this update, there will be the party system, but also the following:
- Multiple enemies per encounter
- Visual representation of health and mana
- Different races
- Skill and stats points will be pooled together. This gives players the option to use stats points as skill points and vice versa, but doing so will create challenges for the player
- First 4 spells for the elemental magic will be introduced, as a way to test the database, but also the mechanic. This may or may not work, but shouldn't have a impact on the game play itself.
While this update is mainly for using a different system to store data, the new features are also part of that system. And with that the next update will be a big update.
So be patient for a bit longer, because the next time an update is released it will be a massive change.
